What Causes Frozen Shoulder?
Though the shoulder joint is protected by a very reliable group of strong ligaments and muscles, inflammation of these ligaments and muscles can significantly affect the function of this highly dynamic joint due to severe agonizing pain. As inflammation occurs, it also results in scarring of the capsule and leads to stiffness of the joint which further add up to the restriction of movements.
While the specific cause of a frozen shoulder is not well understood, some conditions which can predispose a person to suffer from a frozen shoulder include:
- Shoulder injuries and accidents.
- Previous shoulder surgery.
- Prolonged immobilization of the shoulder joint.
- Diabetes.
- Thyroid disease.
