Although Frozen shoulder is a condition which develops gradually over months to years, still it is never un-noticed by the patient. The hallmarks of this condition are pain in the shoulder and restricted movements. The development of frozen shoulder can be thought of as being divided into three stages:
As the name indicates, the painful stage is the one in which patient starts complaining of varying degree of pain as he/she offers movements at shoulder joint in different directions. The range of movements also starts to limit at this stage.
The onset of the frozen stage occurs when pain starts to disappear but the movements at the shoulder joint are further compromised as the joint becomes more and more stiff. It is because of this classic stage that we term the disease as frozen shoulder.
This stage is also known as the stage of resolution and is characterized by slow and steady recovery from the stiffness and pain in shoulder joint.
